PureVia™ is a new natural sweetener blend made with stevia rebaudiana bertoni, commonly known as stevia, a plant native to Paraguay, South America.
PureVia™ was created by the Whole Earth Sweetener Company to meet an increasing need for natural, reduced calorie sweeteners and sweetened foods.
The primary sweetener in PureVia™ is steviol glycosides (with high Rebaudioside A), which is the sweetest part of the stevia leaf. A process much like that of making tea is used to extract the steviol glycosides from the leaf. It is first steeped in fresh water, then filtered and purified before it is crystallized into a high purity steviol glycosides (with high Rebaudioside A). This process brings out the sweetness and helps eliminate the bitter components commonly associated with stevia. The stevia extract is then blended with erythritol (found in fruits such as grapes and melons), isomaltulose (found in honey and sugar cane juice), cellulose powder, and flavours to give PureVia a rounded, sweet taste with the granular texture similar to sugar.
The end result is a natural sweetener blend that is an ideal way to enjoy the ultimate sweet experience without all the calories.
